The "sky view" evolution
A Lantern Roof, will be your favourite window, and it’s in your ceiling; it’s a piece of structural art. Whether you are recreating an old, leaky polycarbonate roof into a masterpiece or adding a centrepiece to a new flat-roof extension, a 5 Star Lantern completely changes the “feel” of a room.
Look up for your favourite view!
By lifting the ceiling height, you create a sense of drama and space that a standard flat roof just can’t match. We specialise in two of the world’s leading systems, Ultraframe and Atlas, ensuring that your new view of the Midlands sky is framed perfectly, with no bulky supports or “clunky” bars blocking the light.
Ultraframe & Atlas: the art of the lantern
As certified Ultra Installers and Atlas Approved partner installers, we have the design team at your disposal to ensure the proportions and materials are perfect for your home and because we do both aluminium and UPVC it’s about what fits you not what suits us!!
- Ultraframe lanterns: Known for their incredible strength and thermal performance. These are the “engineers’ choice,” designed to stay snug and quiet even in the worst Midlands storms.
- Atlas aluminium: The “architects’ choice.” Atlas is famous for its ultra-slim sightlines. Because the aluminium is so strong, the frames can be much thinner, giving you “More Sky, Less Roof” and a sleek, contemporary finish.
Why choose a 5 Star lantern roof.
In the later evening and at night your lantern from a far will become the focal point that attracts admiring views. The elevation s which show the lantern from near or far will become the enviable views.

Common questions about lantern roofs
Thinking about adding a lantern roof to your conservatory or extension? It’s natural to have questions about light levels, insulation, structure and installation. Below, we answer the most common queries homeowners ask, helping you understand how a lantern roof can enhance space, style and year-round comfort.
1. Can I put a Lantern on my existing flat roof?
Usually, yes! If your current flat roof is structurally sound (which we will check), we can often “cut in” a new Lantern to transform a dark room into a bright, airy space.
2. Is a Lantern roof better than a flat skylight?
It’s a different look. A flat skylight is minimalist and flush, while a Lantern adds height and architectural “drama.” Lanterns are often preferred for dining rooms and kitchens to create a focal point.
3. Will it be noisy when it rains?
Our high-performance glazing is designed to dampen the sound of rain significantly. It is worlds away from the “drumming” sound of old plastic roofs.
4. Are Lantern roofs energy efficient?
Absolutely. We use “thermally broken” frames, which mean the cold from the outside can’t travel through the frame to the inside. Combined with A-rated glass, they meet the latest building regulations.
5. How do I clean a Lantern roof?
We fit Self-Cleaning glass as standard. A special coating breaks down organic dirt using UV light, and the rain washes it away. You’ll rarely need to lift a finger.
6. Do I need planning permission?
Replacing an old roof with a Lantern usually falls under “Permitted Development.” If it’s a brand-new project, we can advise you on the local rules for your area.
7. Does a Lantern make the room too hot?
We use Solar Control glass (often tinted Blue or Aqua) that “bounces” away the sun’s heat before it enters the room, keeping it comfortable even in mid-summer. If you’re southerly facing, consider an automatic roof vent – be really cool!
8. What is the biggest size Lantern I can have?
Thanks to the strength of Atlas and Ultraframe engineering, we can create some incredibly large spans. During your design appointment, we’ll calculate the maximum size your structure can safely support.
9. Can I have a Lantern in any colour?
Yes! While Anthracite Grey, Black, and White are the most popular, we can powder-coat the aluminium in almost any RAL colour to match your home’s personality.
10. Why is 5 Star better than a local builder for a Lantern?
A Lantern is a high-precision piece of engineering. As Ultra Installers and Atlas Approved partner installers, we have the specialist training, the “Trial Dig” safety checks, and a 20-year guarantee that a general builder simply can’t match.
