FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

5 Star knows everything there is to know about doors. Our FAQ’s section has answers to typical door-related questions.
Are all composite doors pretty much the same?

No, that isn’t the case. A standard composite door has an average depth of 44mm and foam filling. Very lightweight, it also has a GRP colour skin (commonly known as fibreglass).

In contrast, a Solid Core composite door has an average depth of 48mm and consists of laminated timber layers, making it tougher and more robust than a foam-filled composite door. It also has a UPVC skin, making it easy to colour match the design to your door frame.

There will be a price difference between the two options. Talk to a 5 Star advisor to decide what form of composite door will be best for your home.

Is it possible to have different colours inside and out?

Very often, yes, you can have contrasting colours on the inside and outside of the door. So, if you want a red finish externally and white colour internally, that shouldn’t be a problem. Go wild with colour! Find out exactly what’s possible by chatting through the many colour options with a 5 Star advisor.

MORE COMMON QUESTIONS

We always endeavour to answer any questions that our customers have. For convenience, here are answers to some of the most common questions we get.

How many keys are supplied?

We will provide you with 3 keys as standard. You can ask for more keys at the time of ordering, or you can come back to us for more keys in the future, if you need them.

Can I have keys that work with both doors? (Suited)

No problem at all. Please, just notify the 5 Star advisor during the ordering process and they will get a suited set of keys organised so you can use the same key for both doors.

What is Secured by Design?

An official police-run initiative, Secured by Design (SBD) is focused on enhancing the security of buildings and their surroundings to provide occupants with more secure places to live.

SBD’s product-based accreditation scheme – the Police Preferred Specification –provides a recognised standard for all security products that can deter and reduce crime. Domestic windows and doors, and their components e.g., locks and hinges, are included in this.

Conservatory Outlet (part of the Conservatory Outlet Group), our sister manufacturing company, is an accredited member of Secured by Design, so many products in our range comply with SBD standards. Speak to a 5 Star advisor if you have concerns about home security.

What is a 3-star rated door barrel?

It is highest rated door cylinder around and has been rigorously tested to ensure it offers maximum security against break-ins. All of our door cylinders include snap-secure technology with a lockdown mode, which stops the barrel from being compromised.

Is it possible to completely fold back a French door?

It most definitely can if it has an egress hinge, which lets you fully fold back the doors to give you a superb view of the outdoors.

Would I be better buying sliding patio or bi-folding doors?

If you have the luxury of space in a rear wall, bi-folding doors and sliding patio doors will slot in nicely and provide you with a vast external opening. With a bi-folding door, you can create a wholly unrestricted opening as the doors will completely fold back. The slender frames in a sliding patio door mean that even when the door is closed, you still get a generous view through the design. Can’t decide between one door over the other? A discussion with a 5 Star advisor may help.

What happens if finance is refused?

Finance companies can turn down people for lots of reasons, for example if you’ve moved several times over the past few years. In these circumstances, we always do our best to help and sometimes it’s worth trying another provider, especially if they know you.

I’ve applied for finance with 5 Star Windows & Doors. How long will approval take?

Sometimes our finance company will say ‘yes’ almost immediately and on other occasions it may take them a few days. This short delay can be for any number of reasons and you should not be unduly concerned.

Pay a 20% deposit when you order and, and as long as you pay the outstanding balance in full before 9 months has elapsed (plus a £29 exit fee), no interest will be charged. You will have 9 months to clear the balance to avoid paying any interest (except the £29 exit fee). If, after 9 months, this is not convenient, you can pay in 120 monthly instalments at 19.9% APR Representative. *Deferred for 9 months from the date of completion - £29 exit fee applies if the loan is repaid in full during the deferral period and NO INTEREST will be paid. If the loan is not settled in full within the deferral period, then interest will have accrued from the start of the agreement on any amount still outstanding at the end of the deferral period. Interest will continue to be charged until the agreement is repaid in full. For legal reasons the Representative Example shows interest IF the outstanding balance is NOT paid before the 9 months has elapsed. No security is required on this loan.
