Edwardian conservatories (alternatively known as Georgian conservatories) have strong bold lines for a simple and elegant look. They offer optimum floor space with their square fronted corners which allow more room for your furniture. Whether you require a dining room, play room, garden room or just some additional ‘general’ living space, the Edwardian conservatory design carries endless opportunities. An Edwardian conservatory provides a classic addition to any home. The roof ridge direction and pitch can be changed to suit practically any property (even those with height restrictions such as bungalows).
We’ll take care of everything, every step of the way.
Design - Think about the conservatory you would like then talk with us about your ideas. Bring some rough measurements or maybe a photograph of your property to one of our showrooms. We will draw up the plans on a computer, showing how it will look from every angle as part of our free design and quotation service.
Survey - One of our expert surveyors will visit your home to take detailed measurements and confirm the position of doors and opening windows.
Planning Permission - 5 Star will take care of any conservatory that comes subject to Planning Permission & Building Regulations by approaching the relevant local authority. It may be the case that all necessary criteria has already been met and the obtaining of planning permission is not necessary.
Installation - Unlike many other companies, we handle everything, including digging the foundations, forming the base and building the dwarf wall, erecting the frames, roof and fitting the glass. Every step is precisely scheduled so you know exactly who is arriving and when.
Build Process - Adding a conservatory is far less disruptive than a typical home extension. In fact, hundreds of letters from satisfied customers testify to how stress-free the experience. We even get compliments about how hardworking, polite and punctual our building and installation teams have been on site.
Finishing - We will plaster the internal walls, lay the floor with ceramic tiles or flooring of your choice and install the electric sockets and lighting if requested. If you have ordered a ceiling fan, we will fit it. We even clean up afterwards. When all the jobs are done, we may ask you to fill in a questionnaire, just to make sure you’re totally happy.

Traditional UPVC offers low maintenance...
The growth of UPVC built conservatories over the past two or three decades can be put down to various reasons. The most obvious is that it performs extremely well in terms of energy efficiency and will therefore prevent the structure from ever over-heating or becoming too cold in winter. It also has a weather-resistant exterior and will never succumb over time to the elements, retaining its good looks and strength for years to come.

Aluminium offers maximum glass areas...
The biggest asset that aluminium possesses is undisputedly its strength. It boasts a toughness that you just won’t find in most other building materials which makes it all the more surprising when you consider that it can be easily moulded and shaped into countless different forms. The sleekness of the aluminium frames also enables us to insert huge pieces of glass within it which makes all the difference when it comes to maintaining brightness inside the extension.

You could be forgiven for mistaking Heritage for timber...
Everyone loves the look of timber, how could you not? But what many people don’t realise is how difficult it is to maintain the material as once the weather gets hold it will commonly rot, warp, fade, and dramatically age. Even those au fait with the downsides of real wood still have affection for it which is why we sought to create a viable alternative to timber, minus all the bad bits. It’s called the ‘Heritage’ range and is directly based on the traditional 19th Century sash timber window, sharing a distinct likeness to the original offering but without the maintenance.

You just can’t go wrong with a clear glass roof.
Not only will it provide you with the most stunning aerial views each and every time you get the opportunity to use your conservatory, but it will also add to the internal atmosphere by transferring in much of the light of the sun. It’s also exceptionally good at preventing rain, sleet and hail from causing a noisy inconvenience so that you can relax in much needed peace and quiet. So that you never have to go to the trouble of scrubbing up the roof every few months, make sure that you ask for self-cleaning glass to be added.

A tiled roof conservatory is something that no other roof can match...
Sometimes using your conservatory is all about getting way from things and having a little time on your own or with those closest to you. It’s nice to have a little bit of privacy when stretched out inside and you can give yourself extra privacy by asking that a solid roof is fitted to your conservatory design. The presence of a solid roof will result in the loss of some natural light but this can easily be overcome with the inclusion of roof windows and integrated spotlights.

A virtual rainbow of colour...
Our aluminium colours only look so good because they undergo a thorough 11 stage powder-coating process beforehand so that when they are applied to the aluminium frame they really stand out and capture the eye. Many people still have adulation for timber and we’ve taken that on-board by also producing a number of timber-effect finishes in Rich Oak, Rosewood and Walnut. They have come to fruition thanks to a process called sublimation.

Authentic colour range for heritage windows...
Traditional windows from the 19th Century were always painted and never stained which is why our replacement Heritage Windows are available in a range of traditional colours. You can mix popular colours, for example you can choose a Grained White finish externally but an English Oak finish internally. Underfloor Heating – is it for you?
If you’re thinking about underfloor heating you’d probably like to know a little more about it. So, let’s consider what’s hot and what’s not when choosing and fitting underfloor heating in your conservatory, Orangery or Lifestyle Extension and what the advantages to you might be.
In its simplest form, underfloor heating turns your floor into a large warm radiator. Once the floor temperature rises above the room’s temperatures, the evenly spread heat circulates across the floor surface creating heating everywhere – simply, warmth evenly distributed. The clever bit is that because the floor is much bigger than a radiator it doesn’t need heating anywhere near as much and so is more energy efficient.

5 Star electric underfloor heating...
Our 5 Star Electric underfloor heating uses electric matting which is laid into a levelling screed and is fitted before the tiles are laid. Our electrician must make preparation for underfloor heating during the first fix (normally his first installation visit) and commissions the heating during the second fix (when he makes everything work). The heating system is also installed with thermal insulating backer board to increase efficiency and reduce running costs.

Is electric underfloor heating expensive?
5 Star Electric underfloor heating is more expensive than conventional heating systems, because it requires more materials and involves more labour-intensive work. If we compare a 5 Star Electric underfloor heating installation to a standard pressed steel radiator system (with no boiler) the costs on average are higher. However, once you look at features, such as designer column radiators or more elegant designs and radiator covers, the gap between the prices can be reduced. Also, 5 Star Electric underfloor heating takes up no room, is never unsightly and doesn’t impede the positioning of furniture.
For help & advice call 01562 60800 today!
Is electric underfloor heating more efficient?
How much does 5 Star Electric underfloor heating costs to operate in the long run will depend upon the heat level you demand and how well insulated your new conservatory is; the glass you choose, the number of insulated fitted roof panels and the roof style will all impact. These are far more important factors than the cost differences between underfloor and other types of central heating.
It is essential that your new floor is insulated for your 5 Star Electric underfloor heating to have an effective and efficient output and the higher the quality of the insulation, the greater the impact on the overall running costs – investing in our premier base is prudent in the long run.

Why choose electric underfloor heating?
5 Star Electric underfloor heating is generally believed to be slightly quicker, and therefore normally cheaper, to install than the warm water alternative. Electric system tends to be thinner and more manageable than warm water systems. In fact, for this reason, electric systems are normally the primary option for conservatories. Our normal electric system is fitted in the screed in the form of heating mats which are rolled out to cover the floor. It is also good to remember that 5 Star Electric underfloor heating can also be powered by renewable heat sources like heat pumps and solar panels.

A water system is more complicated to install than electric, and more expensive.
A water underfloor heating system can sit below almost any floor but is more complicated to install than electric, and more expensive. Underfloor heating offers an alternative to radiators in conservatories and many other rooms. Simply, a water based underfloor system is a series of pipes connected to your boiler which circulate warm water throughout the floor to heat the space above. Alternatively, you can connect the water underfloor pipes to a solar water heating system, air source or ground source heat pump. Whatever your connecting to the primary consideration, is the power source powerful enough?
The Energy Saving Trust says water underfloor heating is typically more energy efficient than radiators and therefore less expensive to run. This is because the heat emitted from an underfloor system is more evenly distributed than a radiator, and so the system can use water at a lower temperature. But how much you save on your energy bills over time will depend on how energy efficient your home is, the size of system, the room and how much you use your heating. The price can also be affected by whether the conservatory is near the heating system.

Does the floor covering matter?
Laminates. When it comes to 5 Star Electric underfloor heating for laminate flooring a carbon film system is installed along with insulation and a protective polythene membrane that allows the laminate to lay flat and expand and contract naturally. It’s worth mentioning that solid wood is not the best conductor of heat.
Carpet – If you have been in an apartment with thin walls or ceilings maybe in a holiday apartment, you will already know that carpet acts as a great insulator (for noise and heat), so the thicker the carpet, the lower the heat from 5 Star Electric underfloor heating. If you must fit carpet and underlay should it not exceed a combined tog (thermal resistance) rating of 1.5 – the higher the tog, the more pipes and cables you’ll need to install to compensate. Our advice is, don’t choose carpet.
Ceramic – Great for use with our 5 Star Electric underfloor heating because of their relatively high thermal mass, ceramic or porcelain tiles are excellent conductors. We lay with appropriate tile adhesive and grout that is compatible with 5 Star Electric underfloor heating and that allows for movement.
Luxury Vinyl Flooring – Almost as good as ceramic tiles when used with the 5 Star Electric underfloor heating carbon film system and a special heat pack boarding that aids thermal conductivity. This is currently the must have floor which gives your new room that modern styling finish and when used with underfloor heating definitely gives it that 5 Star treatment.

Simply No!
The worst thing you can do to waste your time, energy and money is to install 5 Star Electric underfloor heating and then cover your floor with lots of rugs that make it harder for the heat to circulate away from the floor.
