When all you want to see is your view.
Fixed frame windows don’t open and because there are no openings (sashes or vents) this means a narrower window frame which gives you more view and more daylight. UPVC frames are still slightly wider than their aluminium counterparts, but both achieve the desired result admirably.

A window with a thin frame giving maximum light entry.
5 Star Fixed Frame windows in aluminium and UPVC are size for size less expensive to buy and to fit, with no handles or hinges, compared with a window that opens. A 5 Star Fixed Frame window is often referred to as a Picture Window as they frame the external view. The glass unit within an aluminium or UPVC Fixed Frame window can be double or triple glazed, clear, or obscure and as with all our replacement windows comes as standard with energy efficient black warm edge spacer bar, argon filled units and low e-coated glass which reflects the heat back into the room. Fixed Frame windows are the most energy efficient of all window styles.
All windows cannot be fixed frame (non-opening)
FENSA & building regulations (health and safety) state that fire escape hinges must be provided for windows in all habitable rooms, on ground and upper floors. All escape windows are required to open to 90-degrees, to allow the emergency services to have access to the building or as an escape route for anyone trapped within. A habitable room does not include utility rooms, dressing rooms, bathrooms, kitchens, WCs, or shower rooms. If you have more than one window in any room, there is no requirement for two fire escape windows. If there is a door which can be used as means to escape, then the windows in that room don’t need to be fire escapes.
Divide up a fixed frame window
If your vista or outlook is not enjoyable you can distract the eye or divide the view from a Fixed Frame window by adding vertical and/or horizontal bars, internal Georgian or external Astragal bar or by adding a lead pattern. The best way to avoid an undesirable view would be to choose your Fixed Frame window with an obscured textured glass, and in the Pilkington range a level 5 gives the greatest obscuration.
