Forté Composite Door in Dudley
New front door installed by 5 Star
When Rita Fredericks of Inkberrow, Worcestershire, decided it was time to upgrade her front door she wasn’t sure what she was looking for. Rita’s journey to a new front door began with a stroll through her own neighbourhood. By walking around Stonepit Lane and the adjoining Malvern View estate, she developed a clear sense of the local front door styles she liked and those she didn’t.
With these ideas in mind, she visited the 5 Star Worcester showroom rather than the one in Kidderminster as the drive was a little shorter. Working with a 5 Star designer, Rita was able to touch and feel the various doors and handles in person, helping her hone her choices and make her final decision with total confidence. She realised she was looking for the perfect blend of style, strength, and security.
A Bold Contrast in Anthracite Grey
Finished in one of our most popular colours, Anthracite Grey, with a realistic wood grain effect, the new door creates a striking visual impact against the traditional red brick of her property. The deep tones of the door are framed beautifully by a contrasting white outer frame, which ties in perfectly with the existing white paintwork across the rest of the house. While darker slabs like Anthracite Grey are stunning, we always provide honest guidance to our customers; we generally wouldn’t recommend this specific dark finish for south-facing entrances due to the potential for heat expansion, contraction, and fading. For Rita’s home, however, it was the perfect aesthetic match.
Thoughtful Design for the Whole Family
Beyond the looks, this installation was about “future-proofing” the home for all its inhabitants, including the four-legged ones. Following news from her vet that her beloved labrador, Molly, was suffering from arthritis in her hips, Rita opted for a low aluminium threshold. This small but significant choice ensures easy, trip-free access, preserving the independence and mobility of both Rita and Molly in their “forever home”. All customers replacing their doors need to choose between a uPVC threshold, a low uPVC threshold, and a low aluminium threshold.
Security and Accessibility by Design
When it came to hardware, Rita opted for the familiar functionality of a lever-lever handle. This choice operates identically on both sides of the door: a simple lift of the handle engages the multi-point security system, which is then fully secured with a turn of the key. While some customers prefer a “lever-pad” which operates like a traditional Yale lock by automatically locking the moment the door shuts, Rita preferred the manual control and consistency of the lever-lever setup.
There Are More Glass Options than Door Slab Designs
Rita had great fun in selecting her Pristine glass panel from the huge choice available. This design features a central motif with a single diamond-shaped lozenge, framed by horizontal and vertical lead lines that create a classic “crosshair” effect. This obscure glass is a brilliant choice for any hallway; it allows excellent light passage to keep the interior bright while providing the essential privacy required for a front-facing door.
Contrasting Colours Inside and Out
Many modern homes have a small hallway where an anthracite door would be overwhelming. This is where the wonders of modern door design come in, where the interior and exterior colours can be different. Here, Rita chose the internal colour of bright white in complete contrast to the external anthracite grey. Virtually all the doors we sell give the option of selecting a different colour inside to out. Rita’s new entrance is a perfect example of how thoughtful design can meet practical needs. Whether you are looking for security, style, or accessibility, our designers are here to help you find your perfect fit.
