Prime Minister, Andy Burnham, wants to put them out of business with a brand-new government supported tradersโ scheme.
Launching later this month, it aims to give people carrying out home renovations greater protections against dishonest tradespeople to avoid them being ripped off, helping them identify and employ trusted traders with confidence.
Acceptance onto the scheme for traders wishing to sign up will require them to demonstrate that they meet higher standards of customer service, transparency and dispute resolution. There will also be a new system introduced to protect peopleโs money during building projects so that it is released in parts after certain milestones in projects are completed.
