Increase Your Space And Embrace Outdoor Living With Patio Doors

If you own a garden but you don’t have feature doors installed, you’re missing out.

Feature doors will create a convenient flow between your indoor and outdoor spaces, maximising your home’s potential as a space to relax and seamlessly linking your home and garden.

Your home and garden shouldn’t be seen as two separate entities and you should be able to break out to your garden in seconds. The installation of a patio door is the perfect solution and will make outdoor living even easier this summer.

What is a patio door?

A patio door is a sliding door that is commonly placed between a home and patios, outdoor terraces and gardens. They consist of a minimum of two large glazed panels but 5 Star also offer three and four-pannelled options for customers with more space.

Patio doors open by sliding horizontally and therefore furniture can be placed in front of them without impacting access. This is quite different from a hinged door which has sashes that open either inwardly or outwardly. This makes patio doors a real space-saving solution.

With patio doors installed in your home, an abundance of natural light will flood indoors and you’ll be able to utilise them for ventilation in the summer months.

What makes a patio door different to a French door?

Patio doors have a very different opening to French doors – patio doors slide open and French doors will open inwardly or outwardly (usually outwardly).

Patio doors also have less framework and more glazing than French doors, giving a fuller view of the outdoors and welcome more light inside. This is especially the case with patio doors made from aluminium as they have incredibly slender sightlines.

Even when closed, patio doors will create a glass wall effect, forming an open plan aesthetic between your home and garden.

Styling your patio doors

While patio doors look great on their own, you can increase their appeal by dressing them up with curtains or blinds. They are also handy for when you prefer extra privacy.

If you’re looking for a fantastically convenient option, roller blinds can be simply rolled out of the way of each glass pane when you require more light. You could also create a layering effect and hang large, thin curtains that are lightweight.

Ensure your chosen window treatment is made to your patio doors’ specific measurements so that it won’t impact the function of the door or drag on the floor.
