Trends From 2017 And Our Style Predictions For 2018

Plenty has happened during 2017, not least in the home improvement industry. We have seen countless new trends develop and 2018 is set to spark a whole series of additional trends that forward-thinking homeowners need to know about.

The colour grey has been in high demand amongst those buying replacement windows and doors or lifestyle extensions, likely because finishes such as Anthracite Grey give them a really modern appearance.

Chartwell Green is also still highly favoured, particularly with people living in farmhouses and cottages who crave that vintage effect. Its popularity has seen it being rolled out as a colour option for virtually every type of door – UPVC doors, composite doors, timber doors, French doors, patio doors and bi-folding doors.

There’s also been a changing of the guard to a certain degree between conservatories and orangeries.

Orangeries are now a hotter home extension than conservatories for many because they offer that something a bit different in terms of looks. People love their brickwork base and the sophisticated glazing and brick walls they boast.

We see no reason why orangeries won’t continue to be popular through to the New Year and alternative home extensions like our Glass Rooms now that you’re guaranteed glass that doesn’t overheat.

Coloured windows and doors will also probably shoot off the shelves of window and door suppliers as homeowners are becoming more adventurous and beginning to move away from traditional whites and blacks.

A definite colour to look out for is Pantone’s ‘Colour for the Year for 2018 – Ultra Violet.

You can expect there to be a host of home accessories and soft furnishings developed in this bright purple finish over the coming months. Don’t be surprised if it’s soon also included in the colour palettes of home improvement specialists. We fully expect our Rich Aubergine finish to be a firm favourite.

Lastly, skylights will light up many homes next year. Adding a skylight to a ceiling gives you the perfect window to the world and draws in lots of natural light from the sun, perfect for those rooms that presently feel bereft of brightness.
