Extreme UPVC Fixed Frame Windows are windows with a fixed frame and cill (if required) which do not open. The lack of opening window sashes or vents makes for a narrow external frame and gives a wide opening that lets in significantly more daylight. A Fixed Frame Window gives the maximum view and the minimum UPVC to look at in any aperture.

5 Star’s Extreme UPVC Fixed Frame Windows are size for size cheaper to buy, cheaper to fit and cheaper to maintain than a side or top hung opening Window. 5 Star’s Extreme UPVC Fixed Frame Windows are often referred to as Picture Windows as they frame the view outside. The glass unit within a Fixed Frame Window can be double or triple glazed, clear or frosted glass and as with all Extreme Windows comes as standard with energy efficient black warm edge spacer bar, Argon filled units and low e-coated glass which reflects the heat back into the room. Fixed Frame Windows are the most energy efficient of all Window styles.

Extreme UPVC fixed frame window colour options
The colour of the frame is up to you, and it’s even possible to have a different colour on the outside of the frame to the inside, so you can match the décor of your rooms. In the UK, more windows are white than any other colour, and they remain our top selling colour too - they cost less than every other colour option. However, we do offer a wide selection of other colours for those wanting something different, with options including black, all the modern greys, traditional Irish oak and other wood lookalikes plus Chartwell green, and a choice of other fantastic colours and textures.
Glass and glazing options – more choices
Double, triple, and acoustic glass units are available, along with toughened and laminate options. Our standard double-glazed units are equipped with sound-reducing technology, excellent thermal performance and Argon fill as standard (for improved thermal efficiency). However, you may want to upgrade further and our designers will explain what’s available. If you are having a bathroom, toilet or shower room fitted, in fact any room where a little extra privacy is desired, you will need to choose a textured obscure glass pattern and again, a 5 Star Designer will help you with your options.

Not all windows can be fixed frame (non-opening)
FENSA health and safety rules state that fire escape hinges must be fitted to windows in all habitable rooms, on both ground and upper floors. All escape windows are required to open at a 90-degree angle, to allow the fire brigade access to the building for emergency purposes or as an emergency escape route for anyone within. A habitable room does not include kitchens, utility rooms, dressing rooms, bathrooms, WCs, or shower rooms. If you have more than one window in a room, there is no requirement to have more than one fire escape window fitted. If there is a door which can be used as means to escape then the window does not also need to be a fire escape.
You can break up a fixed frame window view
If your view or outlook is not appealing you can distract the eye or break up the view from a Fixed Frame Window by adding vertical and/or horizontal mullions, internal Georgian or external Astragal bar or by adding a lead pattern. Imagine overlooking the gas works or worse the wheely bin store, the ultimate way to avoid this undesirable view would be to choose your Fixed Frame Window with an obscured textured glass, in the Pilkington range, level 5 gives the greatest obscuration.

Intelligent frame design features plus double and triple glazing options mean thermal efficiency can be increased to meet any project’s specified standards, up to 0.8 W/m²K or A++. Extreme UPVC Fixed Frame Windows also offer market-leading frame strength and security, and are PAS24 approved as standard. Secured by Design are available if required.
