Sometimes the simplest of designs prove to be the most useful – French Windows prove this point.

UPVC Extreme French windows

An Extreme UPVC French Windows’ casement, or vent, open with hinges on either side of the frame, the master vent opens first, and the slave vent opens second, taking the central flying or floating mullion, (central frame) with it. This means, when both vents are open, a complete opening is created, without any frame left obstructing the view, just like French doors. UPVC French Windows can be fitted with an espagnolette locking system, with a locking handle on each opener. A French Window’s timeless elegance can transform the look and feel of a room.

A UPVC Extreme French windows can...

Solve a fire exit issue – If a window opening requires a fire escape exit but the vent is too small to accommodate a human then a French window can double the size of the opening and therefore could solve the issue. If a kitchen window opens onto decking or a patio then a French Window is the ultimate must-have – when barbequing or alfresco entertaining as it can serve as a convenient serving hatch! The French Window frame is much narrower than a French door frame, so when used in a narrow opening instead of doors they give much more natural light and a better view.

Personalise the design of your new UPVC windows

After choosing a window style, you then need to customise the design, choosing from our many coloured finishes, glazing options and hardware.

Choose from our colour palette

White UPVC French Windows remain our top seller, as white never goes out of fashion, it contrasts wonderfully with red brickwork and has worked perfectly in installations now for over 30 years, and it still looks smart. However, if you are looking for something more like timber then Irish Oak, Anteak or Rosewood are always popular. Chartwell Green has proved a winner over recent years, as have contemporary bestselling colours - the ultra-modern popular greys and black.

More choices – your glass and glazing options.

Textured and frosted glass for bathrooms available in a myriad of designs. Clear glass - it’s not clear at all - it’s coated! It’s energy effective glass, low emissivity (low-E) glass. Low-E glass has a microscopically thin coating of metal oxide on one of the internal glass surfaces. This coating miraculously reflects your heat back into your home yet still lets in all of the light from outside – it is astonishing. It is also the biggest difference between todays ultra-thermally effective replacement French Windows and the double glazing that was fitted up to 30 years ago, which might still look fine but isn’t thermally efficient and will not be saving you the money modern glazing will.

Our handles open windows – you choose the style and colour

Our fantastic handles feel great when you open and close your windows and look very smart when the windows are open or closed.  They are lockable with a key in three positions - open, closed and in the night ventilation position - to give you complete control and ultra-security. You can even choose the handle colour and style, it’s all here for you to explore. If your home insurance company is asking for key lockable windows, your answer will be yes – better talk to a 5 Star Designer, your place or ours?

A UPVC Extreme French window for a Juliette balcony

Made to measure UPVC French Windows can open in or out, so if a Juliette balcony is fitted, an accompanying French Window is your perfect option, to take full advantage of the complete opening. The heavier frame and threshold of a set of French doors are not required, so the thinner frame of the French Window gives more natural light, less frame, and more view. The delicate and romanticised aesthetic appearance of a traditional French Window fits perfectly with any Juliette balcony.

What’s the difference between French doors and French windows?

A French door and a French Window are not the same, French Windows tend to be narrower than French doors with more delicate, thinner frames.  A French Window may have a sill below the window, raising it above ground level, whereas a door will always finish lower, with a threshold at the bottom, to minimalize the trip hazards. The French Window handles will also be finer than the heavier French door handles, though both are individually lockable, normally with keyed alike keys (one key fits both locks).

A French window with astragal and Georgian bar

UPVC Extreme French Windows will often be fitted to older properties and cottage styles with astragal or Georgian bar pre ordered. Astragal bars (Authentic Georgian Bars) is when bars are fitted on both sides of a double-glazed unit, whereas Georgian bars (Internal Bars) is magically fitted to the internal side of the double-glazing unit only (easier for cleaning on the outside of the pane). One of the 5 Star Designers will help you through the many options either in the comfort of your own home or at of our fantastic showrooms. Whatever you decide 5 Star will fit them for you quickly and without fuss.
