Origin Bi-Folding Doors
Style and security

Wherever you live, choosing a really safe and secure new door in your house is important. One of 5 Star’s multi-point locking systems will be at the heart of the security of your bi-fold door. Whichever system you choose, once locked, the multi locking points engage in each direction, and into the strongest of locking keeps, ensuring that the door sash is firmly fixed, locked, into the door frame. If security is important and the bi-folding doors are not being used as an entry point, then all our doors can be specified without an external keyhole, and/or handle, further reducing the points that a would-be burglar could target. So, wherever you live in Worcestershire you will be secure with bi folding doors from 5 Star.

CHOOSE YOUR BI-FOLD DOOR OPTIONS

As soon as you have informed the consultant of the coloured finish you want and the hardware for the design, work will begin on creating your aluminium bi-folding doors.

Bi-fold doors can be made with as few as two panes.

Bi-folding doors come in as few as 2 doors, and as many as 8 doors – spanning up to 9.4 metres. Your configuration options are almost endless, with the open doors stacking either outside or inside the room, and opening left or right. You can split 1, 2 or more doors off in one direction with the rest of the pack opening the opposite way or visa versa. Doors around a corner post opening in different angular directions can stack towards or away from the post or if the space allows for a cantilever, the doors can wrap around a corner without even having a corner post.  Feel free to have a chat with an experienced and helpful 5 Star designer in one of our Worcestershire Showrooms in Kidderminster or Worcester or, if more convenient then in the comfort of your own home.

More options than a rainbow

Bi-fold Doors can be bi-coloured – that is a different frame colour on the inside to the outside – and are available in almost any colour, including trendy black, brilliant white and all the modern greys. As our bi-fold doors are made from powder coated aluminium, there are up to 150 different RAL colours to choose from, depending on which manufacturer’s system you choose.   Wood-grain colour options are also available if required.

Origin doors, one of Worcestershire’s most popular systems, is coated with the highest-grade powder available. Applied using an electrostatic process after a special pre-treatment, it is then cured at 200°C to form a robust coating that is tougher than conventional paint, whilst maintaining a completely smooth surface. Aluminium doors are resistant to scratches and are unlikely to fade.

A great choice of handles...

Each of the hardware handle options are available in a choice of finishes, styles, and colours.  The owners of modern homes tend to choose silver, while older properties look stunning with a bi folding door in a gold or black finish. There’s also a minimalistic simplicity to white which is always popular, it’s the timeless colour. If you have young children in the house, Stainless-steel handles are a great choice because they require less maintenance, are incredibly durable and are easy to clean. You’ll also want an easy-to-pull handle, so children can use easily. One of the most important handle options that 5 Star has to offer, is not having a handle on the outside at all, for your ultimate security if your bi folding doors are not used as an entry point.

Ultra safe bi folding doors

We have bi folding door systems which pass PAS23/24 tests – and pass the Police ‘Secure by Design’ standard. You can choose a 3 Star barrel lock with British Standards accredited Magnum security cylinder, proven to protect against snapping, picking, drilling, and bumping. All our bifolds come with multiple locking points and are fitted with toughened glass as standard which is 8 times stronger than normal glass.

Bi Fold Window Handles
Minimalise the trip and avoid a draught

Your threshold is the track which the door carriage slides in. Our different systems offer slightly different options so do spend a little time and understand the benefits of a flat entry with the accompanying negatives of a slightly less weathertight seal in some conditions. 5 Star recommends a weathered threshold (also known as a ‘rebated’ threshold), which can be sunk into the floor, it leaves a minimal lip, (just 14mm from outside to in) and the seal on the bottom of the bi-fold door compresses against the lip to create a protective weather tight seal.

A non-weathered thresholds gives a flat transition between the in and the out. There is no raised section, which means as the door seal doesn’t have a solid lip to compress against, optimal weather performance is not guaranteed. This track system is only recommended for internal or very sheltered areas. In exposed areas some water egress could occur and a slight under draft is possible.

Origin Doors - Threshold Options
Winter - warm me up. Summer - Cool me down.

For all its advantages aluminium is not a thermally efficient material, which is why 5 Star’s systems all have thermal polyamide breaks designed to limit the heat transfer from inside to out. This, with sophisticated weathertight seals, ensures it’s warm in the winter, cool in the summer. In real terms, this helps to reduce your energy bills. For example – The U-Value of doors measure how effectively they insulate, lower U-Values are better. The Building Regulation require doors and windows to have a U-Value of 1.6 W/m2K and for replacements, 1.4 W/m2K. 5 Star’s premier bi-fold door range exceed British Building Regulation requirements across all its bi fold doors.

Thermal Efficient Origin Doors
Glass and glazing options

The double glazed or triple glazed glass units used to finish the doors are exceptionally strong and tough to break, toughened glass is eight times stronger than normal glass and if preferred laminated glass is almost impossible to get past. Designed to keep you and your home secure, our bi-folding doors are as secure as possible. The glass we use is also super clever, it is coated with an almost invisible film which reflects the heat back into your rooms to keep you warmer in the cold weather and helps reduce your energy bills – brilliant news!
