Let There Be Light This Winter With A Skylight

Could a post-Brexit Britain be forced to stop changing the clocks in spring and autumn by the European Union? That’s the latest in a long line of rumours, but for now we can say with absolute certainty that we will all be putting our clocks back an hour this weekend, giving us all an extra hour in bed!

The changing of the clocks does though mean that the evenings will get darker earlier in the day, so it’s important that you make the most of the very short window of daylight we will receive each day over the coming months.

Speaking of windows, the installation of a skylight in an appropriate spot within your house will aid with light transference and help you capitalise on any sunlight to keep your home interior well illuminated.

When we use the word “skylight” we are also referring to rooflights and roof lanterns, products designed for a similar purpose.

You must decide which room would most benefit from a skylight. Might it be the master bedroom or do you spend a lot of time in your kitchen? It could be the case that you install a skylight in both.

• A north-facing rooflight provides pretty consistent but cool illumination

• An east-facing rooflight provides maximum light transference in a morning

• A south-facing rooflight provides maximum solar heat gain throughout the seasons

• A west-facing rooflight provides maximum light transference and solar heat gain during the afternoons.
